Explicaciones de cuando usar el Much/less y el Many/fewer
Como usar Much / Less y Many/fewer
La norma: Cuando formulamos preguntas o formamos frases relacionadas con cantidades, usamos many/fewer con aquellos sustantivos que podemos cuantificar y much/less con aquellos sustantivos que son incontables.
(many/muchos-as) (Fewer / menos )
(much / mucho-as) (Less / menos)
Ejemplos:
- Sustantivos cuantificables / Countable nouns
(Computer, Car, hour, clock, book, table, bottle..etc)
- Sustantivos incontables / Uncoutable nouns
(Money, Time, water, Sugar,food…etc)
- Ejemplos con sustantivos cuantificables (Many/fewer)
There are many houses in this area / Hay muchas Casas en esta zona (countable nouns)
He has so many cars he can’t count them / Él tiene tantos coches que no puede contarlos (countable nouns)
Many hours went by before he came back / Pasaron muchas horas antes de que él volviese (Countable nouns)
She reads fewer books these days / Ella lee menos libros ahora (countable nouns)
They make fewer tables these days / Fabrican menos mesas ahora (countable nouns)
- Ejemplos con sustantivos incontables (much/less)
People spend much time using their phones / La gente pasa mucho tiempo usando sus teléfonos (uncountable nouns)
I would like less sugar in my coffee, thank you / Me gustaría menos azúcar en mi café gracias (uncountable nouns)
Unfortunately I don’t have much money at the end of the month / Desgraciadamente no tengo mucho dinero al final del mes (uncountable nouns)
La excepción : ‘ a lot of ‘
Hay un pequeño truco, por si nos liamos mucho a la hora de saber cual usar dependiendo del sustantivo que estemos describiendo. Y ese truco consiste en usar ‘a lot of ‘

I drink a lot of water every day / Yo bebo mucha agua todos los días (uncountable nouns)
I don’t have a lot of money (uncountable nouns), but I think you have a lot of Euros in your house (countable nouns) / No tengo mucho dinero, pero creo que tú tienes muchos Euros en tu casa
I like to drink a lot of cups of coffee every day,(countable nouns) but I try not to have a lot of sugar (uncountable nouns) / Me gusta beber muchas tazas de café, pero intento tomar menoz azúcar
